Szybinski Zbigniew , Trofimiuk Malgorzata , Buziak-Bereza Monika , Kieltyka Agnieszka , Sokolowski Grzegorz , Hubalewska-Dydejczyk Alicja

Measuring of goiter by ultrasonography is one of the generally accepted methods for iodine nutrition assessment. Discordance between previously used and lately proposed thyroid volume (TV) reference values (TVRV) is the subject of discussion and makes it difficult to properly interpret the effects of iodine prophylaxis.Aim: To establish TVRV for Polish schoolchildren population.Material and methods: 2903 schoolchildren aged 6–...

Thyroid function in pregnancy differs between populations. The aim of the study was to assess thyroid parameters in Polish pregnant women. It included 1095 pregnant volunteers aged 16–42 years (174, 501, 420 in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimester, respectively), who gave their informed written consent. In each woman thyroid ultrasound was performed, 90.7% had TSH, fT4 and a-TPO measured, and 84.0% iodine urinary concentration (UIC) in urine spot sample estimated.<p class=...

Thyroid function and glucose tolerance in pregnancy: THYROMOBIL pilot study in Poland

Szybinski Zbigniew , Sokolowski Grzegorz , Gilis-Januszewska Aleksandra , Hubalewska-Dydejczyk Alicja , Stefanska Agnieszka , Buziak-Bereza Monika , Kaim Irena , Basta Antoni

Aim of the study was1. To assess the thyroid function in pregnancy in the course of effective iodine prophylaxis model introduced in 1997, based on obligatory salt iodization.2. To exam glucose tolerance and insulinemia in pregnancy. Methods: TSH, fT4, aTPO, urine iodine concentration, usg thyroid volume and homogeneity, glucose and insulin during OGTT, blood pressure, BMI, and thyroid function and glucose met...

The limitations of thyroid volume reference values in assessment of iodine nutrition after recent introduction of iodine prophylaxis

Goiter frequency (GF) in schoolchildren and urinary iodine concentration (UIC) in an appropriately large population sample are iodine nutrition (IN) best indicators. GF in mildly iodine deficient areas should be assessed ultrasonographically, as palpation sensitivity in such cases is low.Aim: To assess thyroid volume reference values as IN marker in population with recently introduced obligatory iodine prophylaxis (OIP).Material an...

Aim: Aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of the structured lifestyle intervention in diabetes type 2 high risk people. Methods: The De-Plan Project participants were selected based on FINDRISK over 14. Exclusion criteria were known or OGTT diabetes. Intervention completed by 175 participants consisted of 10 group sessions on lifestyle changes, diet and physical activity education, and 6 telephone motivation sessions and voluntary physical act...

Trofimiuk-Muldner Malgorzata , Szybinski Zbigniew , Buziak-Bereza Monika , Sokolowski Grzegorz , Lewinski Andrzej , Zygmunt Arkadiusz , Sworczak Krzysztof , Ruchala Marek , Bandurska-Stankiewicz Elzbieta , Golkowski Filip , Hubalewska-Dydejczyk Alicja

Poland was considered as a mild-to-moderate iodine deficiency area according to results of a nation-wide survey conducted in early 1990-ties. The obligatory iodine prophylaxis program based on iodization of house-hold salt (30 mg of iodide/1 kg of salt) was therefore introduced in 1997.The aim of the study was to assess the real impact of the Polish iodine prophylaxis model on thyroid volume in schoolchildren.Material and methods: ...

Introduction: Extended up to 20 years follow-up of several randomised control trials showed 34–43% diabetes risk reduction. Real life implementation studies performed worldwide in different settings and populations proved that also non-intensive, low budget lifestyle interventions can be effective. However little is known about long-term results of the translational studies. Objective: To study the risk factors changes of the DEPLAN non-intensive lif...
